Two-Faced

Hi Everybody,
Thanks for coming back for my next post!  One of my favorite artists is Pablo Picasso, and I've even tried to draw a couple of pictures using his form.  He had a unique way of looking at people's faces and always tried to make his paintings beautiful without being ordinary.

This first picture, I made last summer at Art Camp.  I used watercolors and oil pastels and it is showing a woman and two opposite sides of her personality, stubborn and playful.  There are days that I feel like that too.

This next picture was also made at Art Camp.  For fun, I'd like everyone to guess the profession of the person that I was drawing and their personality.

What do you think this is a picture of?

Have you ever been to Art Camp?  If not, what kind of camp do you go to?

Do you have a favorite artist?

Have you ever drawn a picture that captures your mood?

  1. Dear Mallory,

I am really impressed by your maturity as an artist. I think many people are intimidated (scared) off by some modern art because they don't understand it. I think it is wonderful that you have a favorite painter to inspire you. Do you know about the life of Picasso?

I love impressionist art and my favorite painters is Renoir and Degas. Have you seen their painting?

    Keep up the great work.

  2. Great artwork Mallory! I think the 2nd picture is of a mom - sometimes has to be super focused and sometimes gets to sit back and watch her kids have fun. I have never been to art camp but wish I did - it sounds so fun. I did take a painting class a few years ago and really enjoyed having a space to just do art. I don't really have a favorite artist and have never drawn a picture to capture my mood but think I will try to do so soon. I have lots of moods too! Have fun! Parul

  3. Hi Mallory!!

You are a phenomenal artist! I am blown away by your paintings and drawings! Painting is one of my favorite things to do when I'm not studying for school. My favorite artist is Claude Monet. I think he is my favorite because I also studied his art when I was your age, and I love to draw paintings of the sea like he does.

To me, it looks like the profession of the person you drew is a hollywood actress or singer. She has a bright and sunny personality, and can change herself into different roles easily, like a chameleon. Was I close?

Keep painting and blogging - I love reading them! Hope to see you this spring!

  5. Dear Mallory,

Wow! Your artwork is fantastic! I love your Picasso inspired pieces! He is one of my favorite artists because I like his use of abstract features on his subjects. However, I do enjoy realistic paintings as well.

Your observation about how people can feel two different ways is a good one! I feel that way sometimes too! Your artwork and your vocabulary are outstanding, Mallory!

I think the last piece is a woman performer. You've made that one eye quite dramatic and showy. Am I correct or is there a feature I missed?

What do you do with your artwork? Do you have a portfolio? Do you frame some pieces?

    Your proud teacher,
    Mrs. Y♥llis
